Taming the Digital Consumer Tsunami

In this session, members will learn why a digital strategy is now more critical to their client’s business success, the causes and ramifications of increased digital activity and the impact on brand, operations, and customer relationships. They will learn about the seemingly constant barrage of new digital technology designed to help consumers connect with restaurants, like a new delivery app or a way to get dinner ordered through Alexa with just a few words. If business owners are not equipped to manage these fast-paced and even faster changing trends, it could place tremendous strain on them.
 
For example, merchants who outsource their on-line ordering to third party systems may be required to use that company’s proprietary tablet for the orders, while using different technology for their in-house orders. This creates a confusing, unsightly, hard-to-manage tangle of devices that is inefficient and complicated.
 
Additionally, new and interesting ways to order are emerging as trends not fads. One of those trends is direct ordering from a smartphone through a web browser and search engine like Google. By simply saving favorite restaurants and meals, a consumer can “click a few buttons” from their smartphone and have dinner waiting for them when they arrive at home.
And in-restaurant technologies like kiosks are speeding the ordering process while reducing labor demands. Through a self-serve kiosk, a customer places and pays for their order themselves eliminating the wait-at-the-counter aspect of ordering.
